So one thing I've always wondered, and I'm sure it's changed over the years, and you can talk in generalities, I don't mean to get into your business! :-) But especially in the old days, how did cartoonists get paid, and what determined how much? Like I know you all belong to a syndicate that gets you into newspapers, but say is 1985 again and I plunk down my 35 cents for a Chicago Sun-Times, how did that all trickle down to the 25 or so cartoonists in the paper after all the other expenses and columnists, etc that get paid as well. Also, I got excited for a second when I saw the email, I thought I forgot it was Friday!
Actually it’s Thursday. The holiday threw us off a bit. I’ll post again tomorrow. Great question about how cartoonists got paid. Each newspaper pay an amount negotiated with the syndicate. Various factors determine how much each client pays. The money is then shared between syndicate and cartoonist.
I really enjoy the strips with Norm in the ESL class. I used to be a teacher, and I taught inmates in the Philadelphia Prison System. I taught basic computer skills and publishing. This was 30 years ago. A lot of the newer print presses that the prisons had at the time had computer controlled interfaces.
Anyway, the classroom next to mine was an ESL class, and the instructor of that class worked really hard. I always admired him. He had his work cut out for him!

Ken's question is so good! I think this is why it's important to let your local paper know what strips you'd like to see in their paper!
We don't get yours. I have to read it online. (Bobbie Pinn!)
Eau de désodorisant!!
