Today is the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Sparky would often remind readers of the sacrifices made that day for freedom.
THE IVY HOUSE
While cleaning out a file cabinet yesterday, I came across an article from the Los Angeles Times that was published in 1997. Once every couple of months or so, I’d meet with some of my cartoonist friends for lunch. A writer for the Times caught wind of it, and joined us one day. The writer, Dennis McLellan, had a connection to another group of cartoonists who used to meet at a Laguna Beach restaurant called The Ivy House. My mother was a waitress at The Ivy House when the Laguna cartoonists would meet there. She knew them all. Bil Keane and Virgil Partch were very kind to me when I was starting out. This article compares the two groups. It was a real treat to run across it again.
(The first page is a little difficult to read because of the crease in the paper. Sorry!)
I’ve been meaning to do a little video showing you the restaurant that used to be called The Ivy House in Laguna. Every fan of the comics should be aware of The Ivy House and its place in cartooning history.
Thanks for reading!

I hope you have kept track of all these articles, interviews, public presentations so that we can list them in the honorary degree nomination form when it becomes available.
Nice story. I've always admired Dennis McLellan's work. Of course the work of you and the other guys too.
