This Day in Drabble History: May 17th (and the mystery strip on my bookshelf)

Hi everybody!
On our Mothers Day post, Shags and Garey McKee (who draws the clever “Batch Rejection” on the www.gocomics site), noticed a glimpse of a mysterious comic strip on a photo of my bookshelf. I’ll show you what it is today. But first, here are our three Drabble originals from this date (plus one).

Here’s the photo from our Mother’s Day post. I had mentioned Rod Serling, whose memory inspired me to buy this souvenir.
The artwork in the background is something my brother Mike (who can be seen on the left in the background photo) found in an antique shop. It’s actually printed on a tray. I can’t imagine anyone using that tray for anything, but it says on the back that it can be easily cleaned!
The strip was called “Fan Fare” and it was written and drawn by Walt Ditzen. I never saw the strip when it ran in papers from 1960-73, but I loved the beautiful artwork. Mr. Ditzen was quite a cartoonist! I looked up “Fan Fare” on the internet and didn’t find much, but the other strips I did see were equally beautiful. Does anyone remember it?
Here’s a bit of info on the back of the tray.
So that’s the story of the tray on my bookcase. Glad you guys asked about it!
Thanks for reading. Have a good Wednesday!

That is a beautiful strip. I like the use of color to note the passage of time in the woods - and the bat. The strong red at the end brings home the gag, which is what probably caught all of our eyes in the last post. That was a nice gift from your brother, if only for the beautiful art and great pacing!
I'm not at all clever.
